Toni Morrison’s words have always been profound to me. Although I have experienced it many times throughout my life this snippet of her interview with Charlie Rose in regards to a question posed to her and a review of her work rang so true again to me, as today a question was posed to me as I expressed my support of our Black men, that says a lot about the mentality of the questioner. “As though our lives has no meaning, no depth without the white gaze… I didn’t have to be consumed by or be concerned by the white gaze… that was the liberation for me.” Thank you Toni Morrison, thank you.
